All four sections, in one plan

Every MCAT plan covers all four sections, and your Score Estimate follows each one.

  1. Chem/Phys

Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems

General and organic chemistry, biochemistry and physics as they apply to living systems: solutions, acids and bases, electrochemistry, light and sound, thermodynamics.

    Lessons and standalone practice questions

  2. CARS

    Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills

Passages from the humanities and social sciences. Lessons on comprehension and on reasoning within and beyond the text, then full passage sets to practice on.

    Lessons and passage practice

  3. Bio/Biochem

Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems

Proteins and enzymes, metabolism, genetics, cells and the organ systems, from molecules up to physiology.

    Lessons and standalone practice questions

  4. Psych/Soc

Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior

Perception, learning and memory, identity, social processes and inequality: the psychology and sociology the MCAT tests.

What’s included

The same tools as every StudyPattern exam, built for the MCAT’s sections and score scale.

  • A guided Study Path of lessons and practice
  • Focused lessons, each followed by practice on the same concept
  • CARS passage sets with an explanation for every question
  • Needs-Work Review for the questions you miss

MCAT Chemical and Physical FoundationsSample
In the catalytic mechanism of a serine protease, a histidine side chain removes a proton from the hydroxyl group of a serine side chain. What is the primary effect of this proton transfer?
Choose an answer to check it.
Answer and explanation

The correct answer is B. Removal of the proton produces a negatively charged serine oxygen with greater electron density. This oxygen is therefore a stronger nucleophile and can attack the electrophilic carbonyl carbon of the substrate.

Before you start MCAT prep

Which MCAT sections are included?

All four: Chemical and Physical Foundations, CARS, Biological and Biochemical Foundations, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations. Every MCAT plan includes all of them.

How does CARS practice work?

CARS lessons cover comprehension and reasoning within and beyond the text. Practice uses passage sets: read a passage, answer its questions, then read the explanation for each one. The free questions in the practice library are standalone science and behavior questions, not passages.

Does StudyPattern include full-length practice exams?

No. StudyPattern teaches and practices one concept at a time. For full-length practice exams, use the official AAMC materials alongside your study here.

Is the Score Estimate an official MCAT score?

No. It is an estimate from your practice, by section, not an official result or a guarantee of your exam-day score.

Does a GRE plan include MCAT?

No. Each exam has its own trial and paid access. You can study both with one StudyPattern account.
